A Neighborhood Watch Master Class

While on Nextdoor.com, a site for very localized community news with a primarily older demographic, I discovered a post labeled “SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE!!!” with three photos. A white car was documented very clearly, one approaching, one leaving, and one very close up of a license plate number.

Underneath, a neighbor explained they live off a very small side street in Boring where there are only 3 or 4 houses, and this white car they had never seen before came down the street and turned around and left.

There were a flurry of commenters, all neighbors, responding with similar versions of

“I saw the same car when I was looking out the window and I’ve never seen it on this road before!” or,

“I was sitting on the porch and it drove by around 3” and,

“I saw it pull into the Bingo Hall Parking lot and turn around”.

After scrolling through maybe 9 of these, a younger member posted “OMG, that was me! My sister and I are about to go on a trip and rented this white car and wanted to give it a whirl once around the neighborhood before we got on the main roads. Sorry to cause any panic!”

To be clear,

1) If it was truly only one ride around the block, the original poster must have had some kind of motion sensor setup that photographs every car that comes down it. Or else coincidentally was outside and able to take amazing quality photos? Either way, creepy!

2) Multiple people witnessed her, again, SINGLE trip around our community, and also all happened to be active members of Nexdoor.com.

3) This unpaid volunteer neighborhood watch army is familiar enough with the day to day traffic to be able to identify any usual traffic, to the hour

Also, side note if anything ever happens to my husband or I, please find our Nextdoor.com Boring Community Group.
